Parang Nabur Sword from Kalimantan (Borneo) - 8488


Up for sale is this classical example of the Parang Nabur sword from Kalimantan (Borneo). This saber shaped sword with the D guard is strongly influenced from the naval cutlasses carried by the Dutch sailors, and shows a perfect blend of European with Islamic styles. Up-curving heavy blade 19 inches long, widening to 1 1/2 inch wide near the tip. The handle is wood with brass collar and the cross guard and D guard are brass. Wood scabbard with brass bands (one missing). Total length 25 inches. Very good condition. The cross and D guards are lightly loose. A classical good example, late 19 C.
