Very Fine Wootz Mogul Dagger with Jade Fittings - 8462


This is the style of Indian daggers from the Mogul period, probably late 18 to early 19 C, mostly sought after. Blade 9 inches long, forged of very fine wootz (Damascus steel), curved and double edges with central rib, of clear Persian influence. Handle and scabbard locket and chape are carved from fine jade, of light green shade. The chape is set with two red stones (Garnets ??). Scabbard made of wood covered with the original green velvet. Total length 14 1/2 inches. Very good condition. Red stones are later. Velvet partially worn. A very fine and rare piece.
