Up for sale is this very fine yataghan sword, from the Balkan or other region in the western parts of the Ottoman empire. The 23 ½ inches blade is finely decorated with gold koftgari work in floral pattern and Arabic inscription. The grips are carved from beautifull color walrus ivory with very wide square “ears” and with gilded silver grip strap and bolsters set with corals. The scabbard is wood, covered with fabric and mounted with finely chased gilded brass mounts. Total length 31 inches. Very good condition. repaired crack on the grip. All together a fine piece.
