Good Old Moroccan Koumaya / Jambiya Dagger - 8447


The Moroccan version of the Arab Jambiya dagger is locally called Koumaya and characterized by a slender blade, usually dual edged at its lower half and single edge at the top. There is a big variety in the decoration styles and quality of the handles and scabbards. This one is circa 1900, of a good quality, with a 9 1/2 inches blade, fine brass scabbard with finely pierced and engraved silver front. The hilt of carved wood with chased and engraved silver fittings, painted red (partially erased). Total length 15 1/2 inches. Very good condition.
