Fine Execution Keris Sword with Ivory Hilt, Sumatra - 8444


An Execution Keris dagger / sword from Sumatra. This rare type of Keris was used to execute criminals. The long narrow blade was inserted above the collarbone of the sitting executed person and pushed down directly into the heart, causing instant death. The blade of this specific Keris is 19 1/2 inches long, narrow but sturdy and of flat hexagonal cross section and with acute tip. The hilt is typical style carved from ivory with a brass mendak (the small metal ring/fitting below the hilt). The scabbard is wood bound with silver bands. Total length 27 inches. Very Good condition. Some de-lamination of the steel on one face of the blade. A good fine piece at a very reasonable price.
