Rare Klewang Sword from the Batak, Sumatra - 8422


This Klewang sword is a rare form of swords used by the Batak people from Sumatra. It has a up-curving 22 inches blade, widest at the tip. Wood handle with beautifully carved pommel painted with gold colors and mounted with engraved silver mounts. The grip is bound with twisted silver wire. The scabbard is wood, carved and painted at its tip in the same style as the pommel. The scabbard is open at its top to allow withdrawal of the blade. Total length 27 ½ inches. Very good condition.
