Real 17 C Asadullah Wootz Blade, Persian Safavid Period - 8418

A blade of important origin: A real wootz blade made by Asadullah the famous Persian / Isfahani balde smith of the 17 C. 32 inches long with a shallow fuller, forged from very fine wootz (Damascus) steel of highest quality in pattern shape and contrast. The blade is marked with dot marking in two cartouches, the pear shaped one reads (in free translation): The servant of the king of the country Suleyman (King of the country refers to Ali, the first Shiite Imam, and Suleyman refers to the Safavid Shah in reign (1666 - 1694). The lower horizontal cartouche reads: The work of Asadullah Isfahani.
It should be noted here that new researches suggest the Asadullah was not necessarily a real blade smith but rather a mark of top quality. This may explain the many variations in shape and markings attributed to him (or to his fakers). Whatever may be the historical truth, the fact is that this is a real 17 C Safavid blade of the topmost quality.
