Unusual Yataghan Sword (Europe ?) with Damascus Blade - 8398

This unusual Yataghan sword has a early blade, with wide belly typical to early 18 C. blades. The blade is 23 inches long, forged from very good pattern welded steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon and marked with a deep maker sign. Also the ivory grips and the thin black horn spacers below the grips are typical to 18 C. Yataghans. Some time in the early 19 C. this blade was fitted with brass mounted scabbard, of what looks to be of strong European influence: Offset belt rings and belt frog, as well as the decoration style of the brass fittings. Total length 29 inches. Very good condition. Minor pitted spots on the blade. Grips bolsters and strap are restored.
