Early Turkish Jambiya Dagger with Sham Blade - 8391

Up for sale is this early, probably mid to late 17 C. Jambiya Dagger from Turkey. The 9 ½ inches blade is forged from very fine Sham steel, a form of wootz steel used for blades in the Ottoman empire. This sham pattern is very clear and of high contrast. The blade was inlaid with gold and silver koftgari work. The handle is carved from the inner core of a massive walrus tusk. Wood scabbard covered with black leather and ball shaped horn tip. Very good condition to age. Few blackened spots on the blade and minor losses to the gold koftgari work. Minor old chips to the handle. The scabbard is much later to the blade, may be early 20 C. A fine rare item. |
