African Sword from the Battle of Omdurman - 8370

The sword offered here for sale was collected in the battle filed of Omdurman, 1896. It has a flat steel blade 24 ½ inches long, grip bound with braided rattans (or a similar material) and with a long flared pommel. The scabbard is leather in the shape of a classical Kaskara sword from the area. Total length 35 inches. Very good condition. Damaged scabbard tip. The most interesting part of this sword is an old label attached to it and inscribed ( handwriting): Sword found on the field of Omdurman given to me by …..(??). An historically interesting item. |
