Very Fine Pedang (?) Short Sword, Java, Indonesia - 8351

The origin of this short sword is probably Java, in the style of the Javanese pedang and with considerable European influence. The slightly up-curving blade is 18 inches long with a long back edge. It is forged from fine pamor steel clearly evident on the entire blade. The back spine is inlaid with brass strips. The handle is beautifully chased silver and comes with silver dross guard and fine silver chain. The scabbard is wood with silver fittings. Both the handle and the scabbard fittings shows a considerable European influence. Total length 23 inches. Next to perfect condition. All original parts without repairs or restoration work. A fine late 19 C item.
