Rare, 17 C. Wootz Jambiya Dagger, Bundi, India - 8280

One of the earliest Jambiya daggers we have seen, probably from Bundi, Rajasthan, late 17 C. or a bit later. The wootz blade is 8 inches long with an armor piercing tip and an elephant head beautifully chiseled at its base, on both sides. The handle is steel, covered with thin silver foil with traces of gilding and with the pommel shaped like two parrot heads. Original wood scabbard covered with red velvet and silver tip (both later). Total length 14 inches. Good condition to age. Re-sharpening sign on the blade edge. Some losses to the silver foil on the handle. The silver pommel cover is a later replacement. A fine rare piece.
