Fine Persian Qajar Wootz Yataghan Sword - 8274

The Turkish Yataghan sword was copied by many cultures in the neighboring countries, each adopting the general re-curving blade and handle with eared pommel and each culture added its own characteristics of blades construction and decoration style. Here is a fine example of a Persian Yataghan like sword from the Qajar period, early 19 C. The finely forged wootz blade is almost 29 inches long, with a gold inlaid heel forming a styled bolster. The handle is steel, chiseled in the classical Qajar style. Total length 34 ½ inches. Very good condition. Later made fabric covered scabbard. |
