Fine Wootz Jambiya Dagger from Kurdistan, Dated 1914 - 8246

Up for sale is this Jambiya dagger with the shape and size usually identified with the Kurdish people from East Turkey and North Iraq / Iran. What is most unusual and rare is the handle made of walrus ivory, whereas usually they are wood or Buffalo horn. The double edged curved blade is 9 inches long with a central rib, forged from good Wootz (Damascus) steel. The handle is carved from walrus ivory and the pommel side is inscribed in a nice calligraphy inscription Abdolkarim 1333 probably the owner name and the date (1914 In the Gregorian calendar). Wood scabbard covered with finely tooled leather ending with a horn ball tip. Total length 16 inches. Very good condition. Very minor edge nicks on the blade. A fine piece at a very reasonable price. |
