The ‘Pedang’ is an Indonesian short sword, common in Java but can be found also in other Indonesian islands. This one is one of quality highly decorated and probably belonged to a high ranking person. The blade is 17 inches long, straight back, with slightly down curving tip and with 11 1/2 inches back edge. It is forged from very good pamor steel clearly evident all over the blade. The hilt is worked in heavy silver in a styled human shape, highly decorated and engraved. The scabbard is wood covered with thin silver sheet engraved in a very intricate design. Very good plus condition with only minor denting of the silver sheath and small unnoticed damage to the silver seam welding. Dated probably to the second half of the 19 C. |
