A Fine Heavy Kora Sword With Scabbard - 8164

Kora swords were used in Nepal and North India for both fighting and sacrificial processes. They are quite similar, only the sacrificial sword is wider and heavier. This one is a sacrificial Kora and it is constructed to exactly meet this purpose: Heavy, down curving, blade, with its deadly sharp edge on the concave side and with wide heavy tip to provide the weight needed for beheading an animal with one sword stroke. This one has a heavy 19 1/2 inches blade, with a central rib and ridged spine (indicate an early blade). The spine is marked with Indian letters(?) and the blade tip is marked with the “Sun” talisman marking. The handle is steel bounds with rope fibers. This Kora comes with its original leather scabbard opened at its back. Total length 24 1/2 inches. Very good condition. The scabbard top section and carrying belt are professionally restored in the original manner. Kora with scabbard are quite scarce and hard to find. This sword is coming from the collection of John Powell, SF, a world known collection of Nepalese and related weapons
