Knife / Axe of the Mangbetu Tribe - 8102


The knife of the Mangbetu people residing in Central Africa was originally used as a weapon of war and also as an agricultural implement, but later on developed into luxury item and a symbol of status. The one offered here for sale is an early 20 C. piece, sickle shaped. 8 inches (point to point) blade with a strong central rib. Wood handle bound at its top part with twisted iron wires. 14 inches total length (tip of blade to pommel). Very good condition. Original blackened color of the blade.
