Penai, Sword of the Toraja, Sulwezi - 8060

This form of sword is called Penai and used by the Toraja people from Sulawezi. It is characterized by the peculiar shape hilt with the pommel area sharply turning in right angle to the grip. The Pamor blade is 18 ½ inches long. The hilt is carved from wood with horn end and the scabbard is wood bound with rattan strips and heavy thread for belt attachment. Total length 28 inches.
