Turkish Military Shamshir with European Blade - 8058

Up for sale is this Turkish military saber for use by high ranking officers in the Turkish army, late 19 C. or very early 20 C. The saber employs a European military blade, with the name EISEN….. etched on the spine, standing for EISENHAUER (iron cutter), a mark of quality found on Central and east European blades. It is 31 inches long, beautifully etched on both faces. Steel handle and cross guard with down curving quillons, inlaid with gold and silver koftgari decoration. The wood scabbard is covered with black leather and fitted with steel locket, chape and belt rings all decorated in koftgari gold and silver work. Total length 36 inches. Very good condition. Some losses to the leather. |
