Very Fine Indian Double Kard Knife - 7941

A very fine and unusual piece: Two kard knives in one scabbard. A real size one with a 9 inches blade and a smaller version with a 5 inches blade. Both blades are forged from fine wootz (Damascus) steel, of high contrast and clear pattern. Grips are walrus ivory. The grip strap and bolsters of the big knife is richly decorated with gold koftgary work. Both kards are housed in one sheath with two different compartments. The scabbard is covered with black leather and mounted with fine pierced silver locket and chape. Total length (In scabbard) 14 inches. Very good condition. The leather cover is later but the scabbard and silver fittings are original. A hairline crack on the right grip of the small knife. The silver work suggests central Indian work, Hyderabad area, early to mid 19 C. A very fine item.
