Very Fine, 18 C, Turkish Jambiya Dagger with Carved Walrus Hilt - 8044

Up for sale is this very fine and unusual early Turkish Jambiya Dagger. The blade is forged from Sham (Low contrast Turkish wootz), 9 inches long. The scabbard is steel and both the blade and the scabbard are reachly decorated with gold koftgari decoration. The handle is of Persian origin, carved walrus ivory, classical early Qajar period with very fine age patina. Total length 16 inches. Very good condition. Minor losses to the gold koftgari work at the rear of the scabbard. How this Persian handle married this Turkish blade is quite a mystery, but they are both from about the same period. may be a special order for a high ranking Turkish officer??. A very fine piece.
