Fine Persian Qajar Jambiya Dagger - 8028

Up for sale is this fine example of the Jambiya daggers common to the Qajar period in Persia. The curved 8 ½ inches blade with central rib is forged from very fine wootz (Damascus) steel with good contrast pattern. The I shaped handle is carved from the inner marble like section of a massive piece of walrus ivory. Wood scabbard covered with black coarse fabric and mounted with beautiful pierced silver mounts with strong Indian influence. Total length 14 inches. Very good condition. Excellent age patina to the ivory. Few pitted spots on the blade. This item is coming from the collection of the Calgary Military institute, Canada and it is marked with the institute inventory number MI-1775. A fine piece. |
