Old Massive Khayber Sword with Jadeite Grips dated 1829 - 8027


The Khaybar sword (Also Known as Salawar Yatagan) is the common side arm of the Afrids people residing in the area of the Khayber pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It is easily recognized by its straight blade, T spine cross-section and tapering tip. This one is an early 19C. piece, with a massive and heavy 27 inches long, 2 ½ inches wide blade well forged from laminated steel and decorated with gold inlay ( true inlay) on both sides of the blade with Arabic inscription and dated to 1245 (1829 in the Gregorian calendar) The grips are cut from massive slabs of green jadeite. Steel bolsters and grip strap decorated with gold koftgari work. Total length 32 inches. Very good condition. A repaired chip on the pommel tip of the left grip. The gold koftgari on the bolsters and grip strap is partially erased. No scabbard.
