Good Sword of the Battak - Sumatra - 7829

A very rare form of a Batak swords from Sumatra, probably of the Toba Batak people. The slightly up-curving slim blade is 22 inches long with a shallow fuller.(may be a secondary use of a European military blade). The fluted handle is cut from a massive piece of elephant ivory. Wood scabbard entirely covered with thin silver sheet. Total length26 inches. Very good condition. The blade has few blackened areas and shallow pitted spots. Very Good age patina on the handle and on the scabbard silver cover. A rare piece. |
