Good Piha Kahetta Dagger / Knife from Sri Lanka - 7818


This type of knife / dagger is called “PIHA KAHETTA”, and it is the traditional knife of the Sinhalese from Sri-Lanka (Ceylon). It always has a single edged short heavy down curving blade, and the hilt is elaborately decorated in various techniques of decorative arts. This specific example has a thick blade 7 inches long, (but only about 5 inches of the blade length has an edge), inlaid with brass and silver decoration. The bolster is brass, chiseled in a beautiful design. The grips are made from dark horn engraved and set with chased silver mounts. Wood scabbard with silver locket. Total length is 10 ˝ Very good condition. The blade shows a very nice dark age patina with minor pitting at the tip. The pommel silver cover is very slightly loose. A fine piece in very good condition and very attractive price.
