Buckler / Hand Shield from the Horn of Africa - 7953


This is a Buckler (hand shield) from the horn of Africa. It is 10 inches in diameter, 6 inches in height and it is made from the hide of the Hippopotamus. It is 1/2 inches thick and in this thickness it is believed it will stop a bullet from a small caliber pistol. The fittings are silver. Very good condition . Minor damage to a small area at the edge and at the top of the buckler. These type of shields were sought after in all the area and were traded all the way from Africa through Zanzibar to Oman.
