Small Turkish / Syrian Jambiya Dagger with Wootz Blade - 7946


A small but well made Jambiya dagger from the Ottoman empire, probably Turkish mid 19 C. with strong Syrian influence. The blade is 6 ¼ inches but relatively thick and heavy with a strong central rib. It is forged from Sham, a form of wootz (Damascus) steel common to the Turkish / Ottoman region. It is characterized with its very low contrast pattern. The handle is solid horn. The scabbard is wood, covered with leather and mounted with silver locket and chape, nicely chased. Total length 10 ½ inches. Very good condition. Very minor chip on the horn handle.
