Fine and rare 17-18 C. Khanjarli Dagger - 7927

The Khanjarli, one of the rarest and most sought after dagger in the Indian weaponry. It is characterized by its strongly re-curving blade and wide lunette shaped pommel. This one is a fine example, with 8 ½ inches multi-fullered blade probably forged from wootz (Damascus) steel. The lunette shaped pommel and grips are made from six Ivory sectors, riveted to the tang. Total length 12 ½ inches. Very good condition. Excellent untouched age patina on the blade and good patina on the ivory sectors. A minor crack on one of the grip sectors but it hold solid. The slight difference in the color of two of the ivory sectors suggest a later replacement, probably added to replace broken sectors. The upper tip of the D guard is missing. A fine piece at a very attractive price.
