Fine Wootz Sousson Pata Sword - India - 7917

This sword is of Indian origin, probably central or south India. It is usually referred to as Sousson pata or Sailaba. it is charecterized by the down curving blade, much in the shape of a Turkish Ytaghan blade and the tulwar style handle. This one is a fine example with a 30 inches blade, of good Indian crystalline wootz (Damascus) steel, with 8 inches back edge and 2 inches ricasso. The handle is steel plated with heavy silver and with few tracing of old gilding. Total length 35 inches. Very good condition with few battle scars on the edge. No scabbard. A fine well balanced sword.
