Very Fine Tiger teeth Jambiya Dagger, North India, Wootz Blade - 7894

The family of daggers known as Tiger Teeth are coming from North India, They are characterized by the slender curved blade, usually with reinforced edges and slightly thickened tip. The upper part of the blade ( the ricasso) is usually decorated with hunting scenes or flowers pattern in engraving, chiseling, etching or gold inlay technique. The hilt is of a full tang style, with big bolsters, wide grip strap and very typical three lobed pommel. This specific one has a very fine 9 inches blade forged from very good wootz (Damascus) steel with clear high contrast pattern. The grips are ivory and the steel bolsters and grip strap are inlaid with koftgari gold work. This dagger comes with its original scabbard, covered with fabric. Very good condition. Very little of the gold koftgari work is lost. The scabbard is lightly worn and the pierced silver tip is a later replacement. A very fine piece. |
