Very Good Turkish Yatagan Sword w. Damascus Blade - 5787

A nice example of a classical “YATAGAN”. The Yatagan derives its shape from very old blades. Its peculiar shaped blade has a down curving blade with reinforced spine, and it is found in many weapons in the eastern world from the West Balkan countries to the far Indian sub-continent. Its eared pommel shape is known from very old days and similar pommels were found in swords from Luristan 3000 years ago. This specific example is of Turkish origin, has a 23 ˝ inches long blade finely forged from pattern welded (Damascus) steel. The grips with the side ears are carved from black horn. The blade collar is silver and the grip strap and scabbard fittings are engraved brass. The scabbard is wood covered with green dyed leather. Good plus condition. Few pitted spots left after very old cleaning and repairs done to the blade. The grip strap and scabbard fittings are a later addition to the blade. A very nice example at a very reasonable price. |
