Rare BHUJ (Kutti) Knife / Axe from India - 7888

The Bhuj, also known as Kuttai (literally: to cut) is a rare type of weapon that was known in North West India particularly in SIND. The name Bhuj, may have come after the city of Bhuj previously the capital of Kutch and now part of Gujaret, bordering the old region of SIND. It has a typical short heavy blade, more of a short machete or an axe rather than a knife, mounted straight on a haft that usually conceal a sharp dagger blade in its rear end. The one we offer for sale here has an 8 inches heavy wide blade that was previously covered with silver, now mostly gone. Gilded copper haft decorated with a elephant head. The rear end conceals an 6 inches dagger. Very nice engraving on both the elephant head and the haft. Good condition. The gilding of the copper haft is mostly lost and remains only in several spots on the elephant head and rear button. The small dagger thread is a bit loose.
