Fine Balkan Yataghan Sword - 7831

A late 18 or early 19 C. Yataghan sword, from the Balkan, with a 21 inches blade, clearly signed with a maker mark and richly decorated with silver koftgari work and Arabic inscriptions on both sides of the blade. The steel bolsters and grip strap are also decorated with silver koftgari work. The grips are carved from walrus ivory. Good wood scabbard with tooled leather cover with spiral stitching. The locket is made from pierced silver piece. The chape is a later replacement brass. Very good condition. The grips are slightly loose and age shrink. There are minor damages to the leather cover and to the stitching wires. A fine piece.
