Unusual Turkish / Syrian Yataghan Sword - 7830

A very unusual yataghan in shape and mounts. The blade is of classical form 20 inches long, signed with a maker marks and with traces of gold koftgary decoration (mostly lost). The handle is a single piece of walrus ivory, carved with fingers recesses and mounted to the blade tang with brass rivets and silver bolster. The wood scabbard, covered with black leather stitched in the correct spiral stitching and set with steel locket and chape richly decorated with silver koftgary work in a very Syrian or east Turkish style. This scabbard was made for this sword and it is not a late marriage. Very good condition. Some age cracks in the handle. All authentic. Probably mid 19 C. vintage. |
