Georgian Kindjal / Qama with Green Ivory Handle - 7807

Qamas with green dyed ivory handles are quite rare. The technique of ivory dyeing (both elephant and walrus ivory) was practiced in many countries in the orient and it is found on Shamshirs and other top quality Persian blades, some Chinese blade, Nepalese Khukuries, some Indian weapons and Georgian Qamas. The dyeing of ivory takes very high polish and supposedly strengthen its qualities. We offer here for sale a Georgian Qama of high quality, 15 ½ inches blade with classical off-centered fullers, decorated with gold koftgari decoration. The handle is cut from a single massive piece of walrus ivory, dyed in shining green color and mounted with gold inlaid rosettes. Wood scabbard with steel belt attachment ring also set with gold koftgary. Total length 21 inches. Very good condition. Age crack on the bottom rear side of the grip but it holds solid. A piece of quality.
