Good Old Moroccan Koumaya / Jambiya Dagger Dated 1939 - 7698

The Moroccan version of the Arab Jambiya dagger is locally called Koumaya and characterized by a slender blade, usually dual edged at its lower half and single edge at the top. There is a big variety in the decoration styles and quality of the handles and scabbards. This one is dated on the back of the scabbard to 1358 ( 1939 in the Gregorian calendar). Blade of good quality, with a 8 inches long. Very fine and heavy engraved silver scabbard with typical floral design with side loops. A maker ( or owner ? ) name is also engraved on the rear of the scabbard. The hilt of carved wood with chased and engraved silver fittings . Total length 16 ¾ inches. Very good quality and condition. |
