Very Good 19C Persian Jambiya With Wootz Blade - 7763


A good example of late18th Early 19th C. Persian Jambiya. The 7 inches curved blade is beautifully forged with a central rib, from Persian wootz (Damascus) steel of dark colors and high contrast. The base of the blade is beautifully chiseled with hunting scene of a lion attacking an antelope. . The hilt is a solid piece of walrus Ivory of classical ‘I’ shape with a good age patina. A silver collar with a green stone ( glass ?) was added later to the grip. The scabbard is wood covered with tooled black leather with a brass tip ( later). Total length ( in scabbard) 13 ½ inches. Very good condition.
