Very Fine Sword of the Salampasu, Zair. - 7747

The Salampasu, a tribe of fierce warriors residing in southern Zaire are carrying this unique sword, somewhat different from the weapons of their many neighbors. A very nice photo of a Salampaso warrior carrying such a sword can be seen on the front cover of: Beaute Fatale the catalog of an exhibition of African weapons in Brussels, Belgium, 1992. The blade of this specimen is 17 inches, massive and well forged. The grip is beautifully carved dark hardwood. The scabbard is wood covered with leather and reinforced with three iron strips. Total length 24 inches. Fine condition. This is a late 19 or early 20 Century authentic sword in very good condition withour repairs or alterations.
