Good Whole Steel Indian ANKUS (Elephant Goad) - 7725

This is an Indian ANKUS, (Elephant Goad), used by the Indian to guide their elephants. Although it is not a pure weapon, it is always attached in Museum and private collections to Indian arms and armor. It also finds extended use as a ceremonial item displayed in parades and other important events. This one is a high quality one, made entirely of steel, 22 ½ inches long with hollow haft. 5 small steel bells within the haft are free to move and ring when the Ankus is in use. Very good condition with good age patina on the steel. This is an original unusual item, dated probably to the first half of the 19th C. and a very interesting addition to any Indian art / or edged weapon collection.
