Fine 19 C. Khayber Sword with Wootz Blade - 5861


The Khaybar sword (Also Known as Salawar Yatagan) was originally the common side arm of the Afrids people residing in the area of the Khaybar pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but it use was extended into Pakistan as well as India and Central Asia. It is easily recognized by its straight blade, pronounce T spine cross section and tapering tip. This one is of Afghan origin, with a blade forged from fine wootz (Damascus) steel. It is 13 ½ inches long, 1 ½ inches wide. The base of the blade is decorated with gold koftgari work. The grips are walrus ivory with two black horn spacers.
