Very Good 19C Persian Jambiya With Wootz Blade - 7690

A good example of late18th Early 19th C. Persian Jambiya. The 10 1/2 inches curved blade is beautifully forged with a central rib, from Persian wootz (Damascus) steel. The hilt is a solid piece of walrus Ivory of classical ‘I’ shape with a great patina. The scabbard is wood covered with tooled black leather with two gilded brass mounts with floral design. The blade needs a better etching to bring out the pattern. The gilding to the mounts is worn. The dagger is in a very good condition with unusual decorated scabbard. Total 16 inches. |
