Rentong Knife / Dagger, Aceh, Sumatra - 5758

A very nice RENTONG knife / dagger from the Malay Archipelago. Sometime this knife is also known as “BADE-BADE”. The version offered here is mostly used by the Acehnese people from North West Sumatra (see Stone Glossary, fig. 106 number 4 page 85). The blade is 9 inches long down curving and single edged. It is probably forged from pattern welded steel (Damascus). The hilt is horn sharply up-curving and the scabbard is wood engraved with very delicate design. The blade has several pitted areas and the scabbard has a crack in its seams. Altogether a very nice piece from the second half of the 19th C attractive and decorative item. It is offered here at a very low price.
