Big Georgian (?) Qama / Kindjal - 5743

This is a very big Qama / Kindjal, probably of Georgian origin but could also be from the neighboring areas. The very big blade is 21 inches long, more than 2.5 inches wide (compared to the more common 12-15 inches long and 1.5 inches wide blades), with two shallow central fullers and maker sign on both faces. The hilt is a solid piece of horn. The scabbard mounts are interesting in a way, made of brass and being of semi-military shape. May be even removed from a military side arm and mounted here.
The scabbard is covered with black tooled leather (recent). The blade is in very good condition, cleaned and with very few shallow pits. The hilt had in the past bigger rivet decorations which were removed or disappeared. There are small crack in the locket brass piece. A very impressive item, and a decent addition to any Caucasian collection |
