Good Early Very Long Turkish Yataghan Sword, Damascus Blade - 7385

A very fine and interesting example of the “YATAGHAN”, the famous Ottoman sword, probably of Turkish origin, central Turkey, late 18 or early 19 C. It has a 30 inches long blade widening to a maximum at about 7 inches from the tip. The blade is forged from superb pattern welded (Damascus) steel in the pattern known as Turkish Ribbon which was common to Ottoman blades as from the 17C. The black horn grips has extended ears, forming a T shaped handle, 6 inches wide, tip to tip. Steel bolsters with traces of silver inlay decoration. Total length 36 inches. There is no scabbard. Very good condition. The Damascus pattern is very clear near the tip and less contrasting on the back of the blade. All parts are original, no added or restored parts. A very nice example. |
