Fine African Ngombe “Execution” Sword - 7567


This sword is common between the Ngombe people of central Zaire. There are many legends concerning this type of sword, the most known is its use for execution. Either it is right or wrong, it is definitely a very impressive sword and always was regarded as a symbol of status. This one has a long very well forged blade, 22 inches long, nicely decorated and inscribed in Latin letters: MO(?)KONEMA. The hilt is wood, two stages type, very well made and entirely covered with brass and iron tacks. The blade base is bound with steel strips. Total length 27 inches. Very good condition.
