Fine Afghan Khayber Sword 1800s' - 7631

The Khayber sword (Also Known as Salawar Yatagan) was originally the common side arm of the Afrids people residing in the area of the Khaybar pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan, but it use was extended into Pakistan as well as India and Central Asia. It is easily recognized by its straight blade, pronounce T spine cross section and tapering tip. This one is of Afghan origin, with a massive 24 inches long. The grips are made from two pieces of ribbed, honey colored horn. It is inlaid with three very nice small rounded ivory inserts(Maybe an old repair?). The hilt has a pierced hand guard of high quality work, sometimes also found on fine Pulwar swords from the region. Hand guard is found on Afghan swords converted into a military use by the end of the 19 C. This sword comes with its original leather covered scabbard with two pierced steel mounts. Total length (in scabbard) 31 inches. A very fine and complete piece with beautiful steel work.
