Very Unusual Wootz Jambiya Dagger from Kurdistan - 7555

Up for sale is this Jambiya dagger from Kurdistan, which is very unusual in that that it contains a companion knife attached to it, in a compartment on the rear side of the scabbard. Similar attachments for companion utility knife can be found on various Islamic daggers and swords, but we have never seen one on a Kurdish Dagger. The blade, 10 ½ inches long, curved and double edged is forged from very fine Persian wootz steel, with very clear pattern. The I shaped handle is cut from a solid piece of black water buffalo horn and decorated with four big silver filigree buttons. The rivets bosses are made from old Turkish Coins (one missing). Wood scabbard with beautiful tooled leather cover and horn tip. The companion utility knife is single edged blade, 4 ½ inches long and grips made of horn. Total length (in scabbard) 18 inches. Very good condition. Old repair to the lower part of the scabbard. |
