Fine Turkish Double Knife - Yataghan Style - 7554

A real and very fine piece, from the treasures of the Ottoman empire, dated to 1802: A trousse comprising two knives housed in one scabbard. The two knives are very similar, in a Yataghan style of blade proportion and handles and pommel shape. The blades are 8 ½ and 9 ½ inches long. The handles and bolsters are silver chased in high relief in a typical ottoman style and partially gilded. The scabbard is wood covered with black leather and mounted with two big lockets and chape, chased in the same style as the handles and also gilded. The locket is marked Tsha Allah and dated 1217 ( 1802 in the Gregorian calander). Total length 17 inches. Very good condition. Minor sdge knicks on the blades. One of the pommels is lightly dented and damaged. Restored bolsters and locket top. Recent leather cover on the scabbard. A very fine piece.
