Fine Turkish / Greek Wootz Jambiya Dagger - 7552

A fine piece of Turkish origin, which has probably changed hands and re used by a Greek warrior. The blade, 12 inches long, narrow and of very elegant proportions is forged from fine Sham steel, a low contrast Wootz common to blades of the Ottoman Empire. The handle is cut from a solid piece of walrus ivory. The scabbard fittings are silver stamped with the maker sign and the Tughra (The royal emblem of the Sultan in power). At some time the dagger was passed on to Greek hands and the scabbard cover was replaced with a new one, made of fine velvet and embroidered with classical and colorful Greek style floral pattern. Total length 18 inches. Very good condition. Minor grinding scratches on the blade from an old attempt to sharpen it, and few losses to the fabric cover and the embroidery work. Age crack to the handle but hold very solid |
