Up for sale is this good example of a Balkan Yataghan sword. Typical down curving blade, 22 inches long, decorated with true silver inlay work with inscriptions in Arabic letters, signed and dated to 1229 in the Islamic calendar . This refers to 1813 in the Gregorian calendar. The handle is composed of two massive grips slabs carved from elephant ivory with the classical huge pommel ears. The bolster and grip strap are chased silver. Wood scabbard with leather cover and small silver locket. . Total length (in scabbard) 31 inches. Very good condition . The right grip is repaired.
